Spam Tips
  • Watch where you buy from online. Some companies will spam you forever once you have purchased something from them and they get a hold of your address. Check their policies and always read the fine print of the EULA (End User License Agreement).
  • If you are not sure about a company, research them by searching for them online putting keywords in your search such as the company name and "complaint" or "spam".
  • Never Post your Main personal email address anywhere on the internet. This includes Message boards, Newsgroups and the ones that are really bad are contests that you enter for online. Try using a hotmail account. These come with built in Spam Filters. You can go to MSN and follow the links to get a free Hotmail Account.
  • NEVER ever reply to a spam email. Most of the time they will be bounced back to you, but sometimes this just verifies that you read your spam! This is what they want, so they sell your email address as a confirmed active account. Also never click on spam links that say "click here to be removed..." for the very same reason.
  • Never buy anything, even if it is something you really want from a spam email. It just encourages them that spam works. There are legitimate companies out there that do not spam, and you can find what you need from one of them.
  • Another annoying email problem is the "forward this one on" email. They come mostly from unknowing family or friends who think they are doing you a favor by sending this stuff to you. Here is a great link to send to those family members or friends who keep sending you these emails, and if you are one of those people who forward everything check here first! http://hoaxbusters.ciac.org/, http://www.vmyths.com/, or http://www.snopes.com.
  • The bad news is, once you start getting a lot of spam, they have your address and it never ends! There are hundreds of spam filters you can try and buy out there. If all else fails, change your email address, and start fresh.
