Kingdom Vision

New Baptist Covenant - Window of Opportunity

It seems to me that one of the most dangerous Christian assumptions we can make is that with God it is never too late.  Now I believe that God is always there, always available to hear and help us, that there will never be a time when we want God that God won't be there for us.  I believe with all my heart that no matter how badly we fail or how many times we make the same mistake, no matter how deep the rut we're living in or how long we've been stuck there or no matter how totally out of hope we have become, it is never too late for a new kind of life.  It is never too late for God.

Consider Your Call

Sunday, October 28, 2007CYC

Need leaders?  They could be right in front of you.  Consider Your Call Sunday is intended to enhance the power of God's Spirit to call out new leaders.  Whether you celebrate this emphasis on October 28 or some other time of year, our prayer is for God's Spirit to move among God's people as they listen for the still small voice calling them to ministry and service.  Resources for planning and implementing Consider Your Call Sunday are available here.

Disaster Relief in Peru
Two Virginia Baptist teams recently traveled to Peru to offer disaster relief assistance in the wake of the earthquake there.  Cooperative Missions World Mission Initiatives funds provided tents, water filtration buckets, food for two temporary community kitchens, and soy beans to produce soy milk.  The primary assistance these teams provided was helping local residents clear rubble from their homes.

Click here to read a message that one of the team leaders emailed from Peru during their trip.  If you are interested in volunteering or contributing to Disaster Relief, contact Nichole Bulls at Nichole.Bulls@vbmb.org or 800.255.2428, ext. 7274.

This Month in Our History...with Fred Anderson

Henry Keeling Ellyson became possessed with a vision.  It is the mark of any effective leader that a vision is forthcoming and that it is articulated.  Ellyson was the executive leader of Virginia Baptists.  His actual title was corresponding secretary.  It was a humble title which really did not consider the magnitude of the responsibilities.  If he were serving today, he would be known as the executive director, the CEO of the Mission Board and the General Association.

Cooperative Missions

          Go figure.CM

Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.   2 Corinthians 9:7 (NRSV)

This is the time of year when church budget committees begin the process of deciding how much your church will give to Cooperative Missions and how your gifts will be used. It's more than crunching the numbers. It's more than paying the bills. It's more than balancing the budget. It's how your church multiplies its offerings to reach the world for Christ.

It's a simple equation. Do the math. Calculate the exponential growth of ministry that is possible through the combined giving power of over 1,400 Baptist General Association of Virginia churches to Cooperative Missions. Go figure.
