“What It Means to Worship: The Word”

Recently, I have been focused on the different movements of worship and have offered my insights related to praise, prayer and offering (click here for those articles). As a result, I have had some ask if I would eventually address preaching. Well, this not about preaching, per se. It is about...  More...

This Month in BGAV History

Cooperative Missions: Responding to the Signs of the Times

We’re all looking for where to fill up these days. If we’re going to get anywhere, we must have fuel to power the engine. Now, more than ever, it comes with a high price but we will pay the cost. Cooperative Missions is the fuel that helps power the Virginia Baptist engine. Cooperative Missions puts us on the road to respond to disaster relief calls; on the road to respond to communities wanting new churches; on the road to assist and develop church leaders; on the road to respond to His call. In filling our spiritual tanks, we remember that Christ paid the ultimate cost. As Virginia Baptists we are able to fill up and go through the combined giving power of over 1,400 Baptist General Association of Virginia churches to Cooperative Missions.

Featured BGAV Partner

Each issue we feature one of our Baptist General Association of Virginia partners. Our desire is to help each reader to understand what encompasses this entity we call the Baptist General Association of Virginia.

This month we feature the Virginia Baptist Foundation, Inc.

Focused on Charitable Gift Planning Through Care and Relationship

The Virginia Baptist Foundation is the chartered trust agency of Virginia Baptists in the areas of church related financial and estate planning, wills and trust fund management. Types of funds under management include church cemetery, scholarship, mission and endowment funds, life income plans, annuities, charitable trust agreements and several other financial and estate planning vehicles. With a multi-million dollar principal asset value under management, the Virginia Baptist Foundation is in a position of strength to assist Virginia Baptist individuals, churches, agencies, and programs with the investment and management of church-related giving. Did You Know?
  • That the brand-new “Virginia Baptist Mobile Kitchen” has already been in use in Hungary to provide hot meals to flood evacuees and those working on the dams and helping the flood victims?
  • That the deacons of First Baptist Church of Alexandria, along with Cooperative Missions gifts, provided the funding for the mobile kitchen?
  • That MALEV Hungarian Airlines and Hungarian Baptist Aid entered into strategic partnership early April? As part of the press conference HBAid introduced the Mobile Kitchen to the Hungarian TVs, radios and newspapers as a special donation by Virginia Baptists.
  • That your church can find great missions opportunities in partnership through the Virginia Baptist Mission Board?

Odds 'n Ends

  • Church Musicians Salary and Benefits Survey: Many Churches and Personnel Committees have requested that we provide them with a current means of evaluating the salaries and benefits that are paid to both full-time and part-time Ministers of Music, Worship Leaders, Choir Directors, Directors of Music, Organists, Pianists, and other music staff.

This survey will generate real information for churches to better evaluate how they are supporting those church musicians that serve them.
