"Move Your Stake!"
Fred Craddock, a teacher and preacher who has meant a great deal to me, tells a story from his boyhood in Appalachia. One night he and his father were out in the backyard. Fred was lying on his back looking up at the stars and his father said him, "Fred, how far can you think?" Fred said, "I don't know. What do you mean?" His father said, "Just think as far as you can think up toward the stars." Fred said he screwed his imagination down and said, "I'm thinking. I'm thinking as far as I can think." His father said, "Well, in your mind drive down a stake out there now. Have you driven down the stake? That's how far you can think?" The boy said, "Yes, sir." The father said, "Now, what is on the other side of that stake?" Fred said, "Well, there is more sky." His father said, "Move your stake." Craddock said he and his father spent the rest of the evening moving the stake farther and farther outward. More |

Featured Partner
WMU of Virginia
For over 100 years the Woman's Missionary Union of Virginia (WMUV) has demonstrated a partnering commitment to the BGAV as an independent, autonomous organization. Historically the WMUV served as the mission educator in the churches of the BGAV and has also provided and developed key leaders for state and associational work. Virginia women continue to inform churches and associations of ministry needs and challenge persons to pray and give to the BGAV causes through the Alma Hunt Offering for Virginia Missions and Cooperative Missions.
The WMUV is committed to helping all people, especially women, find their place in missions and ministry using their spiritual gifts and passions. Through age-level education, experiential mission opportunities, leadership development, and many ministry projects, the WMUV continues to challenge people to live out the biblical concept of radical Christianity that encourages them to be dynamic, relevant, caring witnesses that connect to a needy world.

This Month in Our History...with Fred Anderson
In August 1707, a great experiment was just underway. Only a few days earlier in July, five churches had formed the Philadelphia Baptist Association. It was the first Baptist association in the United States, and it was patterned after Baptist associations in England.

Jesus called the children to him and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these." Luke 18:16
Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world. Those of every race and culture, they are precious in his sight. Virginia Baptists love children too and seek to minister to their spiritual and physical needs through Sunday School and Bible study, missions education, Bible drill events, summer camp programs at Camp Piankatank, All-State Choirs for children and youth, summer music camp, Precious Children of India sponsorship, MC2 Missions Connection Celebration, and Disaster Relief childcare.
These are only some of the ways that Virginia Baptists nurture children in Jesus' name through missions and ministries that are supported by the combined giving power of over 1,400 Baptist General Association of Virginia Churches to Cooperative Missions.
