Why Is Everyone Talking about Luke 4 Lately?

It seems every time I turn around someone else is suggesting Luke 4 as the text of a theme for a conference or meeting.  The Baptist World Alliance International Program Committee suggested it as the text for the BWA Congress in 2010.  Not long after that meeting the New Baptist Covenant steering group selected the text for the NBC event.  Our BGAV Program Committee has looked at this text.  Why all the attention?

Southwest Virginia Christian Leadership Network

The Southwest Virginia Christian Leadership Network was established in 2004 to provide a program of continuing education and leadership training for ministers and laypersons in the Southwest region of Virginia.  The mission of The Southwest Virginia Christian Leadership Network is to provide practical church training and theological study for laypersons and ministers in Southwest Virginia in order to further the cause of Kingdom Advance, enhance the ministry of our churches, and provide spiritual renewal for individuals. The Network's target groups are full-time staff ministers, bi-vocational ministers, and laypersons.

Virginia Missions Magazine Has a New Format!

Virginia Missions Brochure Highlights Cooperative Missions

Recently, your church should have received a box of Virginia Missions brochures.  We've changed our Virginia Missions magazine format to an expanded brochure and printed a greater quantity so that you can distribute copies to your entire church family. Whereas the summer Virginia Missions magazine highlights missions and ministries that are funded by the Alma Hunt Offering, this Virginia Missions brochure features missions and ministries that are supported by your church's regular gifts to the Cooperative Missions budget.  Distribute them now with Sunday worship bulletins, at Wednesday night suppers or missions group meetings, or in other ways so that your church members can learn how their Cooperative Missions gifts are being used to share the gospel of Christ in our communities, our nation, and our world. For additional copies, visit the website or email penny.jenkins@vbmb.org.

This Month in Our History...with Fred Anderson

In the recent past, Virginia Baptists have welcomed several new presidents to the educational and theological schools affiliated with the Baptist General Association of Virginia.  Michael Puglisi became president of Virginia Intermont College in the fall of 2006, and last November David Olive was inaugurated as president of Bluefield College.  Also in 2007, Ron Crawford became president of Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond, and Mark Olson was elected president of the John Leland Center for Theological Studies.

Cooperative Missions

Solid investment straight ahead.

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven..." Matthew 6:19-20a NIV

When it's time to choose a solid investment that will pay lasting dividends, look beyond Wall Street for the best return. Whether the stock market is up or down, investing in Cooperative Missions changes lives, meets needs, nurtures leaders, builds partnerships, and strengthens missions and ministries. These are but a few of the dividends that are paid from the faithful stewardship of over 1,400 BGAV churches to Cooperative Missions.

Cooperative Missions. An investment in ministries that never lose value.
