Virginia Baptist
Disaster Relief Training for Crisis Care Chaplains
VBMB Crisis Care Chaplains offer assistance to individuals and to groups that experience trauma. They may respond to local crises that affect only a few or as a part of Disaster Relief when the crisis affects many. Their objectives are to offer listening ears, a kind presence, and affirming words to aid victims toward a restored sense of control of their lives.
Crisis Care Chaplains are trained with a model that draws from theological and spiritual principles of pastoral care and from the internationally recognized models of the National Organization for Victim Assistance (NOVA) and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). Individuals with experience and training in fields of human relations, development, and/or care often make the best Crisis Care Chaplains. But anyone with interest may participate in Crisis Care Chaplaincy training.
Cost: $100
Includes a Crisis Care Chaplain shirt and hat, i.d. badge, and all conference materials. This fee does not include cost of lodging.
NOTE: Virginia Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers are unpaid individuals who receive specific training and volunteer their time and efforts to minister to the victims of disaster.
Disaster Relief ministries are supported by gifts to the Baptist General Association of Virginia’s Cooperative Missions budget and the Alma Hunt Offering for Virginia Missions, as well as by individual donations specifically designated for Disaster Relief.
