Temporary Disaster Relief Child Care
Temporary Disaster Relief Child Care (TDRCC) is a ministry of Virginia Baptist Disaster Relief. TDRCC goes into a disaster area and establishes aChild Care site in a safe location such as a church, school or shelter. Free child care is offered to disaster victims, allowing parents/guardians to begin the recovery process without worrying about their children’s safety.

TDRCC Vision
To be the hands of Jesus to children and their families by providing:
- A safe place for children, eight weeks old to eight years old.
- A Christian witness/presence to children, parents, guardians and the community.
- An opportunity for the local church to continue to minister to the families served when TDRCC leaves.
- A needed service to the community in times of need.
The Team
The child care ministry is staffed by volunteers, both men and women.
A TDRCC Volunteer is:
- A Christ-follower.
- At least 18 years old.
- Equipped through special TDRCC training.
- Approved through a background check.
- Physically and emotionally healthy.
- One who understand the needs of children.
- One who enjoys children.
The Unit
The Child Care Unit is a 16 foot trailer filled with all the equipment necessary to minister to children and families through a child care operation. Equipment includes a generator, cleaning supplies, diapers and wipes, age appropriate toys and games & a washer & dryer.
Procedures for Safety of Children
- Safety of the children is the top priority of the TDRCC team. Some of the special procedures used to ensure their safety are:
- Only volunteers who have taken TDRCC training and passed a background check are allowed to minister to the children.
- At least two adult volunteers are with individual and groups of children at all times.
- A volunteer trained in CPR, First Aid, and SIDS prevention is on duty at all items.
- Safe sleep procedures are practiced at all times.
- TDRCC staff/child ratios exceed Virginia Department of Child Care requirements.
- Only adults with intact security bracelets are allowed to pick-up children.
Rules for Using TDRCC
- First day child attends TDRCC, complete registration form for each child.
- Give complete information on allergies, medical or dietary needs, or comfort needs of child.
- Sign each child into care.
- Each child will receive a security bracelet with his/her name on it.
- Adults will receive a security bracelet with the names of all his/her child checked into care.
- If a different adult picks up children from TDRCC, he/she must get an alternate pick-up slip.
- When picking children up, sign each child out of TDRCC.
- BITING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED. Any child who bites will be removed from the group, and an adult will be contacted immediately to pick up the child. The child may not return.
No child will be released to any adult whose security bracelet isn’t intact or does not have a pick-up slip!
