Children’s & Youth Bible Drill
& Youth Speaker’s Tournament

Begin promotion and leadership enlistment NOW! By beginning early,
children/youth/speakers will have adequate time to develop the skills
needed to participate in church, association and state drills and speakers tournament. A definite beginning time should be announced.

State Children's Bible Drill

*NOTE: Participation in the State Children’s Bible Drill is open to all
churches. However, there is a fee for churches not contributing to the
ministries of the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV).

Qualifications:
Children’s Bible Drill (Grades 4-6)
Choice is made on the church level as to which version, King James or New International, will be used by the children. Drill is conducted at a specific time before an interested audience and a proper team of judges and should be held at least one (1) week prior to the associational drill. To advance to the associational drill, participants will have scored 12+ correct responses in the church drill. Provisions should be made on the associational level for drills in both KJV and NIV, as necessary. Associational drills are held before an interested audience and a proper team of judges at least two (2) weeks prior to the date of the state drill. Participants who score 16+ correct responses in the associational drill may advance to the state level. 2006 State level drills will be provided in the KJV and NIV. Children will use Bibles provided by the Emerging Leaders Team.

*NOTE: Participants must be registered by May 5.The list of participants should be sent to Bob Worthy; PO Box 778; Powhatan, VA 23139, by the Associational Drill Coordinator on the appropriate form. Include church address and phone number.

Recognition
In the State Children’s Bible Drill the following recognition is given:

- Superior - Score 20+ correct responses
- Excellent - Score 16-19 correct responses
- Good - Score 15 or fewer correct responses
- Bronze Medallion - presented to every boy and girl who participates in the State Children’s Bible Drill program all three years of grades 4-6.

State Youth Bible Drill & Speaker's Tournamanet

Youth Bible Drill and Speaker’s Tournament are conducted at a specific time before an interested audience and a proper team of judges. The church level drill and speaker’s tournament should be held at least one (1) week prior to the associational level drill and speaker’s tournament. The associational level drill and speaker’s tournament should be held at least two (2) weeks prior to the state level drill and speaker’s tournament. There is no limit to the number of students who may represent their association on the state level in either event. NOTE: Youth will have the opportunity of participating in Bible Drills using either the King James Version or the New International Version.

State Youth Bible Drill

*NOTE: Only those participants from churches contributing to the
ministries of the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV) are
eligible to participate in the State Youth Bible Drills coordinated by the Virginia Baptist Mission Board (VBMB).

Qualifications
Youth Bible Drill (Grades 7-9)
Students participating in the church level of the Youth Bible Drill who score 180 points or more (total of three regular judges and one bonus judge) are eligible to advance to the associational level. All students participating in the associational drill who score 225 points or more (total scores of three regular judges and one bonus judge) are eligible to advance to the state level drill.

Recognition
In the State Youth Bible Drill the following recognition is given:
- Superior - 270+ points
- Excellent - 240-269 points
- Good - 239 or fewer points
- Bronze Medallion - presented to every student who participates in the State Youth Bible Drill all three years of grades 7-9.

State Youth Speaker's Tournament

*NOTE: Only those participants from churches contributing to the
ministries of the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV) are eligible to participate in the State Speaker’s Tournament coordinated
by the Virginia Baptist Mission Board (VBMB).

Qualifications
Youth Speaker’s Tournament (Grades 10-12)
Students participating on the church level of the Speaker’s Tournament scoring 225 points or more (total of three judges) are eligible to participate in the associational tournament. All students participating on the associational level who score 240 points or more (total of three regular judges) are eligible to participate in the state tournament.

Recognition
In the State Youth Speaker’s Tournament, the following recognition is given:
- Superior - 270+ points
- Excellent - 240 - 269 points
- Good - 239 or fewer points
- Special recognition - is presented annually to those students
who participate in the Speaker’s Tournament all three years of grades 10-12.

Suggestions for Drill & Speaker's Leaders/Judges:

To develop an established ongoing Bible Drill/Speaker’s Tournament
ministry in a church, selected adults need to commit themselves to work with the ministry. The responsibility for promotion of and participation in Bible Drill/Speaker’s Tournament should be that of the Director of Children’s Discipleship or Youth Discipleship where applicable. However, the Pastor, Education Minister, Staff Minister, Discipleship Director, and others may become part of the organization and promotion/enlistment team. One adult for every five speakers should be enlisted to work with the Speaker’s Tournament. In order to have an effective ministry, enlist adults who have knowledge of speech technique and/or composition. Each adult should be thoroughly informed of the rules, schedules and time tables regarding the Bible Drills and Speaker’s Tournament. He/She should create an air of
excitement and enthusiasm to encourage participation.
