7 Steps for a Successful Program
We've found that a successful capital stewardship program generally includes pre-campaign readiness and deployment in seven stages:
- Authorization and CSS Engagement
A capital project begins with a clear and compelling vision. Then, at the appropriate time, the church should vote to authorize a capital stewardship campaign, elect a Discovery Team, and engage the assistance of Capital Stewardship Services.
- Discovery
Good preparation leads to good results. During the Discovery stage, project plans are completed, congregational readiness is accessed, a comprehensive financial plan is developed, and the Campaign Leadership Team is enlisted.
- Approval of Plans and Election of Campaign Leadership
A successful campaign must have strong congregational support. After a presentation by the Discovery Team, the congregation should vote to approve the goal, theme, and financial plan. Also, the Campaign Leader and the Campaign Leadership Team are elected.
- Detailed Preparation
During this stage, the campaign organization is set and detailed plans for the campaign are put in place. The calendar is established, Action Teams are trained, printed materials prepared, and spiritual preparation activities are launched.
- Family Prayer and Advance Commitment
An intentional prayer plan is a vital part of the campaign. Families and singles are asked to pray daily. Focus on Mission Fellowships will be conducted to build understanding about the capital project and to challenge persons and families to make advance commitments.
- Churchwide Commitment
The Churchwide Commitment Stage is the climax of the campaign. Every church member will be asked to participate in reaching the goal. Vision Sunday and Celebration Sunday are the primary events.
- 3-Year Follow-Up
Volunteers and staff are recognized and thanked. Appreciation is expressed to all who have pledged a contribution. Follow-up actions are conducted to encourage persons to follow through on their commitments.
Capital Stewardship Services will help each church customize a capital stewardship program to match your unique appeal and approach.
