Virginia Baptist Hunger Dialogues
In April 2009, the Virginia Baptist Mission Board and the Woman’s Missionary Union of Virginia hosted several Hunger Dialogues across the state related to the issue of hunger.
These dialogs (download the compilation summary) focused on both what Virginia Baptists are already doing to alleviate hunger in Virginia and around the world and – maybe more importantly – what we will be doing in the future.
These dialogues opened doors to new ideas, ministries, networks, and resources that will hopefully move Virginia Baptists into areas that create social movements rather than mere projects.
In today’s economy, our Virginia Baptist food pantries and related ministries are stretched beyond their capacities. It is past time for some serious dialogues that seek answers that will help move people from dependency toward self-sufficiency.
We believe dialogues allowed churches to share information about their current ministries, and learn how they can use each other as resources in order to form new ministries beyond simple food distribution.
While the Hunger Dialogue sessions have concluded for the year, they were the beginning of efforts to increase awareness and start a networking process to assist local congregations in reaching out to those in their communities that are suffering from hunger.
We need your help with our Hunger Ministries!
