Tornado in Gloucester Area
From 6:45 p.m. to 7:20 p.m. on April 16, 2011, a tornado ripped through several eastern counties in Virginia, leaving a nearly continuous damage path and killing three people and injuring at least 60 others in Gloucester, Virginia.

12:00 P.M. – Two Virginia Baptist Disaster Relief volunteers were on site at the Emergency Operations Center Sunday morning for a briefing and then traveled through the community to assess damage and potential needs. It was determined early on that the vast majority of needs were being met with local assets and that there was no need to request additional assistance.
A recent conversation with one of the regional Disaster Relief Coordinators explained that there are many churches that are coordinating their own efforts and are responding to the needs of their own communities rather well.
At least four BGAV congregations are providing work teams from their own membership to respond to the needs of those affected. The state Disaster Relief office stands ready to assist these churches as they respond. One example is that a shower unit has been deployed to assist Providence Baptist Church in Hayes, Virginia, as the attempt to meet the needs of their community. |
VBMB Disaster Relief ministries are supported by gifts to the Baptist General Association of Virginia’s Cooperative Missions budget, the Alma Hunt Offering for Virginia Missions, and individual donations specifically designated for "Disaster Relief."
Your support through prayers for the victims and volunteers and donations designated the "Disaster Relief" ministry are greatly appreciated.
