12:00 P.M. – Our Disaster Relief laundry unit has been deployed to the town of Pulaski in order to assist victims with the washing and drying of clothing. It has been on site since Monday and is preparing to remain through the week as demand dictates. All other relief efforts have come to a conclusion.

Preliminary reports tell us that approximately 25 Virginia Baptist volunteers completed 41 jobs related to placing tarps on roofs and chainsaw work over the course of four days last week. We are awaiting the long-term recovery plan to be approved and implemented in the next few days. Once that is in effect there will be yet another avenue for volunteers to respond.

As with many disasters, we anticipate that the needs will continue long after many volunteers return to their everyday, normal routines. When this does occur, Virginia Baptist Disaster Relief will assist as the needs are dictated by local officials and the BGAV churches that continue to respond.

For more information, please contact Jeannette Hildebrand.

12:00 P.M. – On Sunday, April 10, Virginia Baptist Disaster Relief teams were activated to respond to the communities surrounding Pulaski after tornadoes touched down in that area on the evening of Friday, April 8.

Two assessors arrived Sunday, April 10, along with approximately 20 volunteers who placed tarps on damaged roofs and began removal of downed trees and debris.

The American Red Cross requested meal service to begin Tuesday, April 12 but due to the overwhelming response of churches and businesses in the area, the food preparation and service for victims is no longer needed. Dublin Baptist Church graciously served as a host site for those for volunteer teams who responded. We truly appreciate their partnership in meeting the needs of their community.
