Advance Notice - Special Edition

Stop Hunger Now
Our Stop Hunger Now packaging event scheduled for Friday, February 5 and Saturday, February 6 has been rescheduled due to inclement weather.  The new dates are Tuesday, April 6 and Wednesday, April 7.  The volunteer time periods will  be adjusted to accommodate these new dates.  All groups and individuals must register for a particular time period.  No previous registrations will be honored.  We will begin accepting new reservations as soon as the time periods are established.

Medical Supplies
Virginia Baptists across the state continue to collect medical supplies that will be distributed throughout Haiti.  Due to the recent inclement weather across the Commonwealth, churches have had a difficult time collecting and organizing their medical supplies.  For that reason, the collection period for medical supplies has been extended by one week.  All items should now be delivered to the Virginia Baptist Resource Center the week of February 22-26.  Please take note of this important change.

A majority of these supplies will be distributed in partnership with Cooperative Baptist Fellowship missionaries in Haiti. A centralized distribution depot established by the Haitian government will also receive some of the donations.  The remaining items will be carried directly by our Virginia Baptist volunteers and teams from other states.  We suggest that you partner with other congregations in your region to coordinate this effort. View a list of approved items and delivery instructions.

Medical Volunteers
We have been asked to field two medical teams to serve in Haiti.  Team one will serve from February 18-26 and team two from February 21-March 1.  These teams are for qualified, licensed medical personnel only.  If you are available during these two time periods (or at other times) please go to our website and complete our Medical Volunteer Application Form.  Volunteers MUST be in very good health and willing to endure rather harsh conditions on the field.  More details concerning these two teams and other future teams will be released soon.

Buckets of Hope
Buckets of Hope is a nationwide, Southern Baptist emphasis to provide food for the people of Haiti.  Individuals, families, and church groups are being asked to purchase a five-gallon bucket and fill it with food items from the approved list.  These buckets should then be delivered to your regional collection site which will then be sent to a central collection point.  From there all the buckets will be transported to a staging area in Florida and then delivered to Haiti. The buckets will be distributed by local pastors.  Click here for instructions on filling your own Bucket of Hope.

Financial
Over $70,000 has been contributed by our BGAV congregations. This money will be used to make radical differences in the lives of the people of Haiti.  One hundred percent of these funds will be used to provide food, water, shelter, medical supplies and long term, sustainable aid.  Thank you Virginia Baptists for your continued generosity.
