Disaster Relief Update
Virginia Baptists helped make Christmas a little merrier for approximately 500 people in the Clinch Valley Association of Southwest Virginia. On Monday, December 21, the American Red Cross requested Virginia Baptists provide two meals a day for people living in shelters until their power was restored. The Disaster Relief small feeding unit located in that region was activated the evening of December 22 and served two meals a day through Wednesday, December 30, including special meals on Christmas Day.
Nearly 20 volunteers from Virginia and Tennessee prepared over 5,000 meals with an additional 800 being offered by First Baptist Church (Nickelsville) and Green Valley Baptist Church after the kitchen was closed. We are also aware of at least two other churches -- Clintwood Baptist Church and Grundy Baptist Church -- that provided meals for individuals affected by the snowstorm that came through the area, knocking out power to thousands of customers. Get more information on Virginia Baptist Disaster Relief.

Focus... Sometimes It's Easier Said Than Done!
Much as an optometrist finds the right lenses to help you see clearly, the Youth Ministry Coordination Team (YMCT) at the Virginia Baptist Mission Board is here to bring clarity and focus to your ministry with students.
There are a lot of lenses to look through these days in order to develop a balanced approach to youth ministry. We can help move the lenses back and forth so you can fine-tune your approach and provide the clarity you need to strengthen your work with students. For details, download the 2010 YMCT booklet now!

Baptist World Alliance (BWA) Congress
It’s cold here in Virginia in January, and warmer weather is still several months away – what a great time to plan a summer excursion to Hawaii! Every five years, Baptists from all over the world gather together to celebrate their common identity as Baptist Christians – this year’s gathering is in Honolulu, Hawaii! The VBMB has partnered with Crossroads Travel to offer customized travel packages – sample itineraries include: Oahu North Shore, Maui, Kauai, The Big Island, and a Hawaii Cruise. For more information, visit the BWA webpage.

Summer Registration Now Open at Camp Piankatank!
Are there children in your life that might enjoy swimming, canoeing, or sailing while learning about God, themselves, and others? Why not send them to Virginia Baptist’s own Camp Piankatank, where campers build character and learn the value of a healthy self-esteem while participating in worship, Bible studies, the challenge course, water sports, and much more.Â
Online registration is open for 2010 Camps at Camp Piankatank in Hartfield, VA, on the lovely Pinakatank River. This summer's theme is "KNATAKNAIP: Yes, That's Piankatank Backwards" -- a play on the idea that society usually acts backwards from the ways in which God has instructed us to live (Psalm 1:1-2).
For more information, call 804.776.9552 or visit the Camp Piankatank website.

As we enter a new year, Virginia Baptists are resolute in the mission
and ministries
that advance the Redeemer’s Kingdom wherever the road leads.
We always stand ready to hit the road to areas that are hurricane ravaged,
flooded by tsunamis and typhoons or shaken by earthquakes. We move forward together
down roads that take us to people who are in need of Christ within our own Commonwealth or
on roads that are a half a world away. Whether paved or dirt, gravel or unchartered, the roads
that Virginia Baptists travel can win the world for Christ.
And it all gets accomplished through the combined giving power of over 1,400 BGAV churches to Cooperative Missions. Join us this year as we travel new roads and cover new territory together for Christ.
2010 BGAV Budget Goal: $14,000,000
