"I'm starving!" ...Really?

“I’m starving!” “I’m famished!” “I’m so hungry I could eat a horse!” ...Really? Most of us have said something like this or heard someone say it, but few of us have actually experienced true hunger. The sad truth, however, is that millions of people experience extreme hunger every day – never knowing for sure where their next meal will come from. During the time it takes you to watch the video above, about 23 children will die of hunger worldwide. The good news is that Virginia Baptists are not sitting by idly while others starve. Every year since 1982, the Virginia Offering for World Hunger is collected. In the past five years, we have given nearly $1.7 million to help alleviate hunger both in Virginia and around the world. Not only are we giving much needed money, we are also working together through organizations such as Stop Hunger Now, an international hunger relief agency, packaging meals to be sent all over the world. Since October is Hunger Awareness Month, why not ask yourself and your church what more you can do to make “I’m starving!” just a phrase we say before Grandma’s famous Sunday dinner rather than the cry of children around the world with nothing to eat.

In Our History
  Fred Anderson

Virginia Baptists wanted to give to the special cause which had been presented but everything seemed to conspire to make it difficult. The country experienced economic woes and suddenly plunged into a long depression. The top banks closed. People had a struggle yet many Virginia Baptists honored their pledges.

Traditional. Contemporary. Vocal. Instrumental. Hymnals. Screen-projected choruses.
The musical medium can vary from church to church but the end result is always an expression
of praise. We have a natural desire to praise the Lord and declare our faith through music.

Cooperative Missions offerings help to support ministries that develop
and nurture musicians in our churches. While they rehearse individually each week
in their own congregations, Virginia Baptist musicians come together to hone their crafts
through statewide programs that occur throughout the year such as the Handbell Festivals,
Senior Adult Sing & Share Festival of Praise, All-State Choirs, Summer Music and Worship Arts Camp, iPraise Weekend, and Gloria Deo Virginia Baptist Church Music Conference.
Our Virginia Baptist Women’s and Men’s Chorales offer praises on our behalf
around the commonwealth and the world.

The combined giving power of over 1,400 Baptist General Association of
Virginia churches to Cooperative Missions helps musicians around the state provide
worship experiences that enable us all to more fully worship the Lord with gladness.
