Kingdom Vision

If People Didn't
Die, Would Religion Be Necessary?
Back
in August I spoke to an interfaith gathering. There were three speakers -
a Muslim, a Jew, and a Christian. I was the Christian. Our assignment was
to talk about what our sacred texts had to say about life beyond death
and how those beliefs about a world to come relate to our understanding
of life in this world. The three of us did our best in twelve and a half
minutes each. The audience was invited to submit questions for the
speakers' response. One of the cards I drew asked this question: "If
people didn't die, would religion be necessary?"

This Month in Our History...with Fred
Anderson
Baptists are a peculiar people! That's alright. The Bible
speaks of those "peculiar people" who followed God. And
Baptists are certainly peculiar!
First, we have no known founder. Catholics look to Peter as "the
rock" upon which Christ's church (and to their way of thinking,
their church) was built. Lutherans have their Luther and Methodists
have their Wesley. But Baptists have no one person whom they can claim
as the human instrument behind the establishment of their order.
