Kingdom Vision

John Upton

Thanks to All of You in the Nursery

I remember Deborah's comment well: "John, it's our time to keep the nursery today, but I have to help another class during that time."  The message was clear.  The nursery was to be mine and another dad's that Sunday morning, and ours alone.

Consider Your Call SundayConsider Your Call
October 26, 2008
The vision of "Consider Your Call" is to begin laying the foundation for the local church to call out and nurture all of its members for ministry and service.  Will your church call future leaders to live out their faith through their discovered gifts and passions for ministry?  Soon your church will receive a Consider Your Call CD containing Sunday School lessons, sample sermons, resources for worship, and other useful materials to help you plan a Consider Your Call emphasis.  All of these materials can also be downloaded from the Consider Your Call website.

This Month in Our History...with Fred Anderson

Most Baptists value the educated mind, and this is the reason that Baptists have established newspapers, schools, colleges and universities, and great seminaries of learning.  This month is generally the time that many Baptist churches say farewell to the college-age youth.  As the youth depart, usually the older adults have some well intended advice.

It always has been thus.  In a Religious Herald from September 2, 1880, a father said of his college-bound son:  "I do not want him hurried through; put him where he belongs and keep him there till he knows something."

Cooperative Missions: Higher Prices Down the Road

We are all confronted by sticker shock these days. No matter where we turn,
we find startling prices that leave us with a little less in our pockets than we had anticipated.

The ministry of every church and of the Baptist General Association of Virginia depends on the faithful stewardship and support of every member. And while our faltering economy changes almost daily, the need of the lost for a Savior always remains the same.

With the faithful and sacrificial support of over 1,400 BGAV churches,
we will together continue to be on mission to advance our Redeemer's Kingdom.

In times that are providing new challenges and new opportunities to every church member, and to their churches, the office of Stewardship Development is available to assist your church in areas of stewardship that range from stewardship organization to stewardship education and stewardship annual emphasis.

For more information, contact Don Campbell.

Each month, we will provide you with downloadable calendars to guide you in reading the Bible through in 2008. This month, we are including the October 2008 calendar. We are strong believers in reading God's Holy Word, and we pray that these calendars will help you and your church in reading the Bible regularly. Each calendar is provided in two formats (8.5 x 11 and 5.5 x 8.5, the latter designed for bulletin inserts) and may be viewed and downloaded here.
