Four Cries for Healers

A month or two ago I stopped and had coffee with a pastor friend en route to an associational meeting.  In that conversation my friend reminded me of a mission trip we had taken together when I was director of Partnership Missions.  We went to the town of Litomerice in the Czech Republic.  While there, we were invited to attend a concert at a nearby town called Teracin.  During World War II the Nazis converted Teracin into a concentration camp for Jewish artisans from all over Europe.  The concert was a memorial concert sponsored by the current German government, expressing its grief over the cruelty of the Nazi troops.

Crisis Care Chaplain TrainingDisaster Relief: Crisis Care Chaplain Training

May 28-30, 2008

Virginia Baptist Resource Center, Richmond

Cost: $100 per person

Crisis Care Chaplains serve during large-scale disasters as a part of the VBMB's Disaster Relief network.  They also serve in smaller, more localized situations, such as when unanticipated death strikes a community, congregation, etc.  Crisis Care Chaplain training is built upon two foundational perspectives - a model developed by the National Organization for Victims Assistance (NOVA), as well as basic biblical and theological precepts of Christian pastoral care.  Crisis Care Chaplains learn a simple yet appropriate and helpful process for leading victims, both primary and secondary, through the initial phases of processing and dealing with their experiences.

To register for the training session, contact Jeannette Hildebrand.

Fred Anderson
This Month in Our History...with Fred Anderson

For Baptists, especially Virginia Baptists, they were a stellar couple.  They were the epitome of achievement and of leadership.  They were stars in a world which respected service and humility.

Today their faded photographs stare from an old album.  On the walls of the Virginia Baptist Historical Society there are two oil portraits of him, as well as a marble bust.  On a parlor wall in the Grace Baptist Church in Richmond there is a classically posed oil portrait of her.  Their likenesses survive and so do, in some fashion, their accomplishments.

Cooperative Missions

Higher Price to Pay

As gas prices continue to soar, we increasingly know the pain of paying a higher price for a needed commodity. But, if we're going to get anywhere, we've got to have fuel to power the engine. We will pay the cost no matter how painful.

Cooperative Missions is the fuel that powers our Virginia Baptist engine. It puts us on the road to answer disaster relief calls; on the road to start new churches; on the road to assist and develop church leaders; on the road to serve Christ.

The next time you fill up, remember that Christ paid the ultimate cost to fill our lives. And know, that as Virginia Baptists, we are able to go fill lives with His love through the combined giving power of over 1,400 Baptist General Association of Virginia churches to Cooperative Missions.
