News and Information about BGAV Partners

From the April 2006 Issue of Advance Notice:

News from the Center for Baptist Heritage & Studies and the Virginia Baptist Historical Society ...

  • Heritage Seekers, Issue 5The Center for Baptist Heritage & Studies has released the fifth issue of Heritage Seekers, its magazine to teach families about Baptist principles and heritage.  The latest issue highlights the story of the legendary missionary, Lottie Moon, and teaches the concept of personal commitment.  Copies can be ordered at $7 including shipping.  Annual subscriptions are $20 and church subscriptions of ten copies of each issue are $150.  Orders can be sent to the Center for Baptist Heritage & Studies, P.O. Box 34, University of Richmond, VA 23173.
  • The Center for Baptist Heritage & Studies will sponsor a convocation on the subject of missions delivery in the 21st century.  A group of invited participants will discuss the current challenges to missions delivery and articulate a vision for the future.  The facilitator of the convocation will be Dr. William Tinsley, a leader of WorldconneX, a missions network based in Texas.  It is expected that information and ideas gleaned from the convocation will be released to a wider audience.  The Center provides a “think tank” opportunity for occasional convocations on topics of current interest to Baptists.  Previous convocations were held on the future of district associations in Baptist life, the principle of the separation of church and state, and the various models of polity in Baptist church governance.  Resources were published from each of these conferences and copies are available through the Center for Baptist Heritage & Studies.
  • The Virginia Baptist Historical Society announces its annual meeting which will echo the missions delivery theme with a report on the convocation by Dr. Tinsley and a keynote address by Rosalie Hall Hunt, president of Alabama WMU and the author of a new biography of the pioneer missionaries, the Judsons.  The event is set for 7:15 p.m. on May 16, 2006 at Huguenot Road Baptist Church in Richmond.  For further information, contact the Virginia Baptist Historical Society at (804)289-8434.
